Is Alside Siding Any Good?

There’s no doubt that Alside is one of the most popular vinyl siding brands on the market. This vinyl siding has a very authentic design and texture that might worry some homeowners because it can retain dirt. However, most people who decide to install Alside have nothing but great things to say about it.

It’s easily cleaned and maintained. And you don’t have to worry about the color fading, as the warranty protects it.

Naturally, most homeowners are curious about how Alside vinyl siding performs in the long run. The good news is that it’s incredibly durable. However, independent tests and consumer reports also indicate that Alside may not be as long lasting when exposed to extreme cold temperatures.

If you’re worried about things like mold or rot, you’ll be pleased to know that Alside siding is water-resistant. But there’s another reason why you should choose Alside if longevity is a concern – you won’t have to worry about dents or scratches made by hail or heavy storms.

Also, it has a very secure fastening system, which means there’s no rattling noises and the panels will stay put for many years to come.

What is the best vinyl siding color?

The easiest and the most obvious answer would be to say, “the best color is the one you love most!” But it’s not always that simple.

Without a doubt, one of the most common and popular siding colors is some type of beige or grey. These colors will look great on almost any type of house, and they’ll also fit into any neighborhood without an issue. But there are other colors that homeowners ask for as well. Farm red is frequent in some areas of the country, as well as white, dark blue, and some shade of green.

When selecting your siding colors, the size of your home also makes a difference. If your house is small, then choosing toned down colors for trim and siding that are in the same color family will actually help the house appear visually bigger.

On the other hand, if your home is large, then choosing contrasting colors for your siding will help add visual interest and improve the overall curb appeal of the house.

It’s also important to remember that depending on where you live, and whether or not you have a historic house you might not be allowed to choose just any color. That said, you’ll have a list of permitted siding colors to choose from.

Alside boasts a huge color selection among all its vinyl siding product categories. Together, there are around 30 colors available. Note, that each siding product has its own set of colors, and the color you like may not be available in the siding product you want to install. The three Charter Oak Collections along with the Board Batten vertical siding have the largest selection of colors to choose from.

Overall, their siding color pallet is divided into three categories:

Classic: these colors have been selected due to their timeless appeal and simple elegance. Classic colors enjoy a wide range of applications from traditional to modern to farm style homes.

Architectural: if you are looking for a unique color pallet that will make your home stand out from the rest, this is the way to go. These colors can be used to create any home vision from a relaxed “country” feel to a dramatic modern look that turns heads.

Energy efficiency of vinyl siding

When talking about any type of siding and energy efficiency, there’s always a debate regarding the options available. In terms of vinyl siding and energy efficiency, the best course of action is to choose insulated vinyl. This will increase your siding’s R-value and greatly improve energy efficiency.

Not all Alside vinyl siding is insulated, but there are product lines like Prodigy and Charter Oak that are. They have rigid insulation, which is attached to each of the panels.

TO figure out energy efficiency of a particular siding product, look for the R-Value. It represents a thermal resistance measure, and the higher the rating, the better insulation you’re going to have.

Alside Siding Warranty

Alside Siding warranty doesn’t stand out too much from other siding brands, which is both good and bad. Whichever product line you choose, the company will provide warranty for any defects in the products, and they’ll replace or repair siding in case of corrosion, blistering, or peeling.

Alside offers limited lifetime warranty coverage for all of their products, but premium product lines offer transferable warranties as well.

Note that similar to other siding manufacturers, the warranty covers defects in the siding itself, not any problems that you may experience with the siding as a RESULT of careless, faulty installation.

If your siding gets damaged because there was rot and damage in the wall that was never taken care of, or it was simply incorrectly installed, Alside will NOT cover these damages.

Alside vs. CertainTeed siding

Alside and CertainTeed are by far the leading brands in the vinyl siding business. CertainTeed siding only focuses on the vinyl and has a plethora of colors and shapes to choose from.

They’re particularly famous for their Wolverine American Legend line that has a gorgeous wood-grain finish. The Charter Oak Energy Elite Insulated Siding is Alside’s best-selling product line. Both companies are an excellent choice for vinyl siding because they’re highly durable, beautiful and versatile.

Price-wise, though, CertainTeed is a little bit more expensive. The price range with the installation is between $4.50-$9 per square foot. And with installation Alside siding pricing ranges on average from $3 to $7.50.

Alside vs. Mastic Siding

Mastic Siding by Ply Gem is another fantastic brand that produces vinyl siding for homes all over the country. They have other siding material options in their repertoire, but since vinyl is one of the best and most affordable options, the company has several product lines, homeowners can choose from.

Compared to Alside, it’s definitely a lot less expensive. Budget product lines, such as Trademark or Brentwood cost as little as $0.65 – 0.75 per square foot respectively. It’s also less accessible compared to the Alside, which is one of the biggest siding companies in the country.

Alside vs. Royal Siding

Royal is one of the top five siding brands on the market. The name suggests that the company focuses on producing elegant and aesthetically pleasing vinyl siding.

It’s all about style and premium quality. Also, you can choose from nearly 30 colors and find the one that’s perfect for you. Royal siding also offers excellent wind protection and UV-resistant quality.

But to be fair, premium Alside product lines do that as well. Both companies provide excellent quality, but Royal is better suited when it comes to style and color options.

In terms of cost, both companies maintain similar pricing, with Royal being slightly more expensive. For example, their best rated lines Royal Woodland 16 and Royal DuraPlank cost $1.60 and 2.10 per square foot respectively.

Both lines are rated higher than the higher-end lines by Alside.

Alside vs. Norandex siding

Norandex is a siding company with a good reputation, but it’s still a relatively small brand that has yet to make a significant impact on the market. It’s difficult for them to compete with Alside in almost every category.

However, their vinyl siding does have an excellent storm-proof property, and their warranty always covers hail damage. They’re a fantastic option for homeowners who live in areas with inclement weather. Noradex siding is also cheaper than Alside, ranging from $1.50-$5 per foot with the installation.

Alside Siding Reviews From Homeowners

Given the fact that Alside is an old, accessible, and a quite popular siding company, there have been many homeowners over the years that can testify to its quality. As with any product ever made, there will always be dissatisfied customers.

But in general, most reviews regarding Alside siding are positive, and people sing their praises regarding the quality and durability of the vinyl. In most cases, when issues are reported, it has to do with the installation that can easily go wrong.

Also, more expensive Alside product lines are expected to be more energy-efficient due to insulation, but that’s an option each homeowner has to make. Some homeowners report reductions in their electric bills by as much as 30% after installing insulated vinyl siding from Alside.

Even though Alside vinyl siding is durable, it’s not immune to damage. There have been reports of leaks, as well as accidental damage from being hit by a snowblower or a lawnmower.

Is thicker vinyl siding worth it?

When deciding which vinyl siding to choose for your house, it’s easy to get hung up on the shape and color and what it’s all going to look like. But one of the most relevant factors to always consider is the thickness of the siding. But is the thicker option always better?

In most cases, the answer is YES. The thicker siding is going to stay more stable and more reliable when the weather conditions get worse. And for the most part, thicker siding is less likely to warp over time.

Thicker siding is also made with better color technology, which means that its colors will also take much longer to fade or chip, compared to cheaper thinner siding panels. To be on the safe side, it’s best to go with 0.04” of thickness.

Does new vinyl siding increase home resale value?

Vinyl siding is inexpensive, durable, and practical. These are the selling points most homeowners go for, convincing them to choose it in the first place. But if you’re worried about maintaining, or increasing your home resale value, unfortunately, vinyl isn’t always the best option.

If you are concerned about resale value and want to get top dollar for your siding, consider installing famous brand name siding such as James Hardie. This is especially a good idea if your property is located in a wealthier neighborhood where real estate prices are above $400-500K.

And there are specific situations where it would be best to avoid it. For example, if your home has any kind of historical value, attaching vinyl siding will most surely lower the resale value.

Moreover, if your house doesn’t have a standard architectural design and edges, the vinyl siding might just flatten it and ruin the entire look of the house.

Alside, or any kind of other vinyl siding is not an ideal choice in areas with severe inclement weather, as even the best vinyl siding brands don’t stand up to the elements well over time. In these areas, if you are concerned with long term value of your house, vinyl siding is not the best option.

However, there are definitely circumstances when quality vinyl siding can also increase the value of your home. If you own the type of house that will look great with vinyl siding, all you need to do is choose the right product and color, and it will certainly increase your home resale value, because brand new siding is always better than old, dingy siding:)

Moreover, if you live in a mild climate, your vinyl siding will do just fine over the years, and this will also help maintain your return on investment.

Where to buy Alside siding?

If there’s one thing you don’t have to worry about when it comes to Alside vinyl siding, it’s whether or not you’ll be able to find it. There are numerous dedicated local Alside distributors available in every state.

All you need to do is choose the state you’re from, and the extensive list of the distributors will appear.

You’ll see all the towns and cities in the state, as well as the name of the distributors, address, phone number, and even a map link so you won’t have any issues finding them. That way, you can visit or call them directly and ask for a quote or an estimate.

Alternatively, you can also order Alside siding from a local building supplier. Note, that Alside is NOT available in big box home improvement stores, such as Lowe’s and Home Depot.

Is Alside siding right for your house?

Vinyl siding is huge, and most siding manufacturers have shifted their attention to creating the best product they can. And while it’s always best to do your research when taking a big financial step like this, choosing a certified champion in the field like Alside is rarely a mistake.

Your Alside vinyl siding is designed to last and to look gorgeous too. The company made sure that they have something for everyone who wants their vinyl siding products, regardless of the budget. The only step that remains is to ensure that you find the best contractor to perform the installation flawlessly.

It is the worst quality siding we have ever had. Puckers and appears to melt in areas from the sun, never again.

      Elaine,

I used to install Alside siding 15 years ago – it was made from 100% virgin vinyl, with solid color throughout. I never had issues with it – even put it on my own house.

You either got very unlucky with a bad batch, or it wasn’t real Alside.
